Police Log: Man Tasered, Charged with Resisting Arrest

Here's a rundown of recent crime incidents in Royal Oak.

  • A man described as highly intoxicated was spotted by officers at 1:45 a.m. Friday outside O'Toole's, 205 W. Center St.  He was not allowed entry into the bar. Next up: He was turned away from a cab idling on the curb. Police said he started striking the taxi and was arrested for disorderly conduct.
  • Police used a Taser on an allegedly intoxicated man at 5:05 a.m. Tuesday at 30701 Woodward Ave. Police said the man became agitated, clenched his fists and started walking quickly toward an officer before they used the Taser. Officers had been called to the scene on a report about a "suspicious person" drinking alcohol and "acting unusual." When they approached the suspect, officers said they tried to talk to the man, who said, "Why? I'm not doing anything." The man advanced, police said, and refused the officers' orders to stop. After the Tasering, he was taken into custody and charged with possession of open alcohol and resisting arrest.
  • Two counterfeit $20 bills were passed last week: one at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Qdoba, 301 S. Main, and another at 4 p.m. Nov. 8 at Speedway, 4727 Crooks, police said. In the Thursday incident at Qdoba, an employee told police he took a suspicious looking $20 bill from a black male his late 20s to early 30s, 5 feet, 6 inches, 165 pounds. He was bald and wearing a blue coat, police said. The man left the store prior to the clerk realizing the $20 bill was counterfeit, officers said. The Speedway swindle was discovered when a counterfeit bill was found in the drawer; the perpetrator wasn't spotted.
