Police Still Investigating Car Crash That Killed 2 Royal Oak Children

Michigan State Police officials say they are pursuing leads as they search for the driver of a light gray Honda Odyssey minivan with a temporary license plate.

Police are still looking for the driver of a car who reportedly cut off Dawn Siegel's SUV on US-23 on June 22 in two Royal Oak children.

Jordan Siegel, 14, and sister Ashley Siegel, 11, had split their time between Novi with their father and Royal Oak with their mother, where they attended school. for the siblings on Tuesday.

Lt. Michael McCormick, the assistant post commander at the Michigan State Police-Brighton Post, said Thursday they have had a few tips come in and they are working on some active leads, but have yet to identify a subject.

He said they are still in the process of doing the accident reconstruction portion of the investigation to determine exactly how the crash occurred.

Dawn Siegel's car rolled several times along southbound U.S. 23, according to the original report from the MSP. Police said Siegel told them she was cut off and swerved into the median to avoid the other vehicle, but was sideswiped.

"According to the information that we have, there were some reports to that affect — that there was another vehicle involved that did supposedly cut the person off," he said.

MSP is looking for the driver of a light gray Honda Odyssey minivan with a temporary license plate who kept on driving southbound on US-23. Police said the driver is believed to have been a woman and that the vehicle should have front end damage from striking the white 1999 Ford Expedition driven by Siegel.

The accident remains under investigation.
