Royal Oak Firefighters Work Overnight to Put Out 2 Blazes

Royal Oak Fire Department crews were busy through the night fighting fires in Royal Oak and Madison Heights.

Firefighters were called to the 4600 block of Hampton Boulevard at approximately 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and were still there this morning at 7 a.m. investigating the cause, said Fire Chief Chuck Thomas.

The house was unoccupied and no one was hurt in the blaze that consumed the roof of the house.

Royal Oak firefighters also assisted Madison Heights with a hotel fire.

"We were called in to help at approximately 4 a.m. Between the two fires, we had all crews out," Thomas said.

Ferndale and Hazel Park fire departments also assisted in the Madison Heights incident. Royal Oak handled the blaze on Hampton alone, the chief said.

"I won't know the cause of the Royal Oak fire until our investigation has been completed," Thomas said.
