Pair Charged in Royal Oak Woman's Slaying Back in Court Today

Alan Wood and Tonia Watson, who face murder charges in the slaying of Nancy Dailey in her Woodwardside Subdivision home Nov. 20, are scheduled for a preliminary exam.

Two parole absconders facing murder charges in the  of Royal Oak are scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. today in before Judge Terrence Brennan for a preliminary examination.

Alan Craig Wood, 48, is charged with premeditated first-degree murder and felony murder in Dailey's death in her Woodwardside Subdivision home. Tonia Michelle Watson, 40, is charged with felony murder. Premeditated first-degree murder and felony murder carry a mandatory life imprisonment penalty.

In addition, Watson and Wood have been charged with larceny in a building and unauthorized use of a financial transaction device.

in December that Watson told police Wood used his scarf to tie Dailey’s arms behind her back and pulled out and unfolded his knife and said to Watson, “You know what I have to do.”

"Watson then said Wood used his knife to cut Nancy Dailey's throat and stab her in the neck," Barretto said.

Watson and Wood have lengthy criminal records, including convictions for home invasion and gun crimes, Michigan Department of Corrections records show. Both failed to report to their parole officers in Pontiac.  

Records show Wood's last conviction was for home invasion in 2005 in Oakland County. He had also been convicted of arson conspiracy in 1990 and attempted breaking and entering in 1991, both in Macomb County.

State Department of Corrections records show Watson's convictions go back to 1997, and include multiple weapons felonies and possession of stolen property valued at more than $1,000 but less than $20,000, all in Oakland County. In Wayne County, she was convicted of escape from a felony jail term.

Both Wood and Watson waived their rights to pre-exam conferences when they last appeared in .
