Royal Oak House Fire Still Under Investigation

Smoking has not been ruled out as a cause, fire marshall says.

The investigation continues into why a ranch home located in the northwest portion of the city caught fire Wednesday night.

“The exact cause is undetermined at this time, but we can’t rule out smoking as a possible cause at this point,”  Marshal Tom Nikkila said Friday.

“Thankfully, nobody got hurt,” the fire official. “The gal that lives there and her dog got out safely.”

The house at 4252 Buckingham went into flames at about 9 p.m. Wednesday. Fire Chief Patrick Mulligan said firefighters at the 13 Mile and Woodward Avenue station could see a glow in the sky and were quickly on scene.

The charred home is boarded up. The homeowner was new to the block off Woodward Avenue near 14 Mile Road and neighbors said they do not know where she is staying.
