Royal Oak Police Issue Rabies Alert

Here is a rundown of recent crime reports from the Royal Oak Police Department.

Highlights from reports through Friday:

Rabies alert

The  has issued a rabies alert after officers found a rabid skunk in the 500 block of Parkdale. According to police, the skunk was euthanized and removed for disposal.

Police say if you encounter a suspected rabid animal, immediately contact the police department at 248-246-3500. Domestic assault

Royal Oak officers responded to a report of a domestic assault at the BP gas station at 2419 E. 11 Mile Rd. at 1:52 p.m. April 8 involving a victim who had been stabbed. When police arrived, they determined the victim had gotten into a quarrel with his uncle. According to police, the victim had two puncture wounds on his face. The suspect was arrested on an aggravated assault charge.

Missing vehicle items

  • At 8:15 a.m. April 8, a man reported to police that his 2007 Dodge Nitro, parked in the 1200 block of Wyandotte, had the passenger side window smashed out. According to police, a car stereo and factory-installed GPS unit were stolen from the vehicle.
  • A man reported at 7:55 p.m. April 9 that someone smashed the driver’s side window of his vehicle and that two cellphones inside were stolen while the vehicle was parked in Jimi’s Ice Cream parking lot, 1528 E. 11 Mile Rd. The man said his car was locked.
  • On Sunday, four different vehicles were broken into in Royal Oak:
    • At 7 a.m., a woman reported that someone stole the doors off of her 1997 Jeep Wrangler while it was parked in her driveway in the 2500 block of Brockton. 
    • At 5:30 p.m., a woman reported that someone smashed the passenger side window of her vehicle parked at the and stole her purse containing money, credit cards and a cellphone. 
    • At 8 p.m., a complainant reported that someone had entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the 700 block of Lawson and had stolen a Nikon camera with various flash accessories and a pair of sunglasses.
    • At 9 p.m., a complainant reported driver side window of his 2008 Jeep was smashed out in the 800 block of E. Fifth St. A factory-installed GPS unit, a suit with dress shoes and a set of golf clubs was missing.

Good deed gone badly

At 10:30 p.m. April 8, a woman reported to police that a dog she was trying to help bit her. According to police, the woman said she saw a Rottweiler-mix dog caught on a fence as she was walking in the 1000 block of East Sixth Street. The woman said it appeared as if the dog had attempted to jump the fence and its collar got hung up on the fence, the police report said. The complainant said she freed the dog and walked it to the front door of the home to speak with the owner. While she was talking to the homeowner, the dog bit her, causing injuries, the report said.

Missing dealer plate

A complainant from reported to police at 9 a.m. Tuesday that someone had stolen one of the business' dealer license plates.

Detergent mixture causes mess

A complainant at reported to police at 1 p.m. Tuesday that someone mixed laundry detergent with another substance and poured it into a machine. According to police, the mixture caused three washers to become clogged and inoperable. 

Missing air conditioner

At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, a woman reported to police that a window air conditioner that she thought she had stored in the closet of her home in the 400 block of Laplaza was missing. The woman said she stored it several months ago, and when she was packing to move, she noticed it was gone. Police did not find any sign of forced entry.

Stolen vehicle

A man reported to police at 4:55 a.m. Thursday that the tan 1995 Chevrolet Caprice he had borrowed Wednesday night from a friend was missing. The man had parked the car in front of his house in the 3900 block of Mark Orr.
