Royal Oak Police Warn Residents of Scammers and More

Highlights from Royal Oak Police Department reports from the past week:

Royal Oak Police warn residents of scammers

500 block of E. Sunnybrook, Aug. 14: A woman reported three men approached her stating they observed cracks in her driveway and offered to seal the cracks for $48. The woman agreed and the three men sealed the cracks.

After, the men told the woman they used 23 pounds of concrete and she owed them $1,150 for the work. She refused to pay them more than the original agreed upon cost of the work. After debating the cost, the men accepted a payment of $50 and left the area.

The woman provided the following descriptions of the three men: 

  • white with a dark complexion, 5-feet 4-inched, short dark hair, approximately 40 years old with a white pearl stud earring in his left ear
  • white with a dark complexion, collar length dark hair, 5-feet 8-inches, approximately 35 years old
  • white with a dark complexion, 5-feet 8-inches to 5-feet 9-inches, approximately 50 years old

All three men were wearing light colored dress pants and short sleeve button up shirts. They arrived in a new red extended cab pick up truck with chrome wheels.

The Royal Oak Police Department recommends residents do not accept unsolicited offers for service from anyone and to contact the police department if individuals attempting to provide services of this nature approach them.

Home invasion

3400 block of Chester, Aug. 8: A woman reported someone entered her residence through a window and stole her 19-inch Samsung television.

800 block of Knowles, Aug. 13: Someone reported a person stole a sewing machine from the enclosed front porch of the residence.

 

Breaking and entering

4200 block of Rochester, Aug. 11: Someone broke into multiple storage units located in the basement of the apartment building and stole a Craftsman tool box containing miscellaneous tools, miscellaneous power tolls, sports equipment, Sony Play Station game system, Spalding golf clubs, and jewelry. The person also attempted to break into a coin operated dryer. 

1229 S. Washington (Special D Events), Aug. 12: The business reported someone attempted to break into the business through multiple windows.

3300 block of W. 14 Mile, Aug. 13: A woman reported someone entered her unlocked garage and stole a generator. 

500 block of N. Gainsborough, Aug. 14: A man reported someone entered his unlocked garage and stole a Dremel multi-tool and a Craftsman air sander.

1016 W. 11 Mile (YMCA), Aug. 11: A woman reported someone broken into her vehicle and stole a purse. 

4400 block of Springer, Aug. 10: A man reported someone broke into his vehicle and stole a Garmin portable GPS unit.

4400 block of Springer, Aug. 10: A man reported someone broke into his vehicle. Nothing was taken from the vehicle.

3601 W. 13 Mile (William Beaumont Hospital), Aug. 12: A man reported someone broke into his 2009 Chrysler 300 and stole the in-dash navigation system.

3535 W. 13 Mile (William Beaumont Hospital), Aug. 12: A woman reported someone broke into her 2009 Chrysler Town & Country and stole the in-dash navigation system. 

3535 W. 13 Mile (William Beaumont Hospital), Aug. 12: A man reported someone broke into his 2011 Chrysler Town & Country and stole the in-dash navigation system.

100 block of N. Main, Aug. 14: A woman reported someone broke into her vehicle and stole a purse.

iPhone, wallet. Bike and more taken 

300 block of Baker, Aug. Aug. 12: A woman reported someone stole a UPS package delivered to her residence.

1000 block of E. Windemere, Aug. 12: A woman reported a man entered her backyard and attempted to steal her bicycle. She confronted the man and he dropped the bicycle and fled the area on foot.

The man is described as18 years old, white, medium build, 5-feet 7-inches to 5-feet 9-inches tall, short blond hair, wearing a dark long sleeve shirt and light colored shorts.

32906 Woodward (Al’s Famous Deli), Aug. 10: A man reported he lost his wallet at the business. When he returned to claim his wallet, he discovered an undisclosed amount of currency was missing.

207 S. Main (Comet Burger), Aug. 10: A man reported someone stole his iPhone he left unattended.

1400 block of W. Windemere, Aug. 12: A man reported someone stole a blue Vortex mountain bike from the backyard.

Acts of vandalism

400 block of N. Connecticut, Aug. 10: A man reported someone threw a landscaping brick through his window.

100 block of N. Gainsborough, Aug. 12: A man reported someone slashed the driver’s side front and rear tires of his vehicle.

300 block of Oakdale, Aug. 14: A man reported someone shot the side of his residence with a paintball gun which damaged the vinyl siding.

Purse taken at dog park

Ottawa and N. Campbell, (Royal Oak Dog Park), Aug. 10: A woman reported she parked her vehicle, placed her purse on the passenger seat and walked to the park area.

While she was in the park, she observed two men in a white two-door Mercedes Benz enter the parking lot and park next to her vehicle. One of the men got out of the vehicle, broke her driver’s side window and stole her purse. The men fled the area northbound on Campbell.

The woman described the man who broke into her vehicle as a black with short hair wearing a white T-shirt. She was unable to provide any further description of the driver.
