Tip of the Month: Storage of Combustibles

Starting the spring cleaning process? Here are a few fire safety tips from the Royal Oak Fire Department.

As the weather begins to get warmer and brighter, we open windows and notice the smudges on the glass and dust on the sills. And so begins the urge to start spring cleaning.

As you begin organizing and getting rid of stuff, the urges residents to properly store combustibles.

Storage of combustibles

  • Gasoline and other flammables should be stored in tight metal containers outside of the home.          
  • Never store gasoline or other flammables in your basement.
  • Do not use flammable liquids near any open flame or sparks.
  • Never use gasoline on a barbecue.
  • Sort and remove newspapers and rubbish from furnace or heater area.
