Vehicle Pursuit Leads to Arrest, Purse Grab at Supermarket and More

Highlights from Royal Oak Police Department reports from the past week.

Home invasion


3300 block of Coolidge, Nov. 16 – Nov. 17, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.: A woman reported someone entered her residence and stole a basketball, garment bag, bottle of perfume and a laptop computer charger. It is unknown how the person gained entry into the residence.

 

Engagement ring, cellphone and more stolen

 

600 block of Williams, Nov. 9 – Nov. 12, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.: A man reported a care worker stole currency from his residence.

1815 N. Main (Luna Bar), Dec. 8, 12:30 a.m. – 2 a.m.: A woman said she put her coat on a table at the bar. Someone stole a cellphone and car keys from the coat pocket.

200 block of S. Dorchester, Dec. 7, 8 a.m.– 10 a.m.: A woman reported a contractor stole her engagement ring and anniversary band from her residence.

500 block of Chambers, Dec. 2, 2:54 p.m. - 5:27 p.m.: A man reported someone stole a UPS package from his front porch.

 

Cars stolen

 

1815 N. Main (Luna Bar), Dec. 8, 12:30 a.m. – 2 a.m.: A man reported he put his coat on a table at the bar. Someone removed his keys from the coat pocket and stole his white 2012 Ford Edge.

1800 block of Newport Court, Dec. 6 – Dec. 7, 4 p.m. – 8:25 a.m.: A woman reported someone stole her white 2000 Chrysler Voyager. 


Acts of vandalism

 

900 block of N. Gainsborough, Dec. 7, 6:52 p.m.: A man reported someone cut an extension cord he was using to power a portable heater outside of his residence. 

323 S. Main (Incognito), Dec. 6 - Dec. 7, 10 p.m. – 10 a.m.: A person reported someone broke a pane of glass on one of the entry doors to the business. 

32000 block of Woodward, Dec. 5 – Dec. 6, 11 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.: A man reported someone broke out his passenger side window with a piece of concrete.

 

Purse grab at supermarket


30991 Woodward (Kroger), Dec. 6, 2:56 p.m.: A woman reported she finished grocery shopping at Kroger. She sat down in the driver’s seat of her vehicle and set her purse on the passenger seat. A man opened the passenger door and stole her purse. The man fled southbound on Woodward in a mid 2000 yellow or gold Ford Taurus. 

The suspect was described as a 29-year-old black man, 5-feet 9inches to 5-feet 10-inches, 175 pounds with bushy hair. The suspect was wearing a royal blue jacket and dark pants.


Vehicle pursuit leads to arrest


Woodward and Lincoln, Dec. 7, 10:57 a.m.: Royal Oak officers responded to the area of Woodward and Lincoln to assist Berkley Police with locating a suspect that had fled from them in a vehicle. Royal Oak officers located the man’s vehicle travelling east on Lincoln near Woodward. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended in the area of Lincoln and Stephenson when the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. He was quickly captured in a nearby backyard and taken into custody after struggling with officers.  The man will be charged with flee and elude and resisting arrest.
