Weekend Planner: Veterans Day Events and More

Honor those who served in the military and help others this weekend.

Friday is Veterans Day. A good way to honor those who served our country is to attend the event at Veterans Memorial Plaza. Then, check out other weekend events.


  • When: 11 a.m. Friday
  • Where: Veterans Memorial Plaza, between Royal Oak City Hall and the
  • Cost: Free
  • Why go: The Ninth Kentucky Infantry will honor veterans with a rifle salute and the will lead the march to the monument. Members of the , American Legion, Frank Wendland Post, Royal Canadian Legion, Eagles, Elks, Royal Oak police and , Daughters of American Revolution, Three Flags & Ezra Parker Chapters, Memorial Society and the city of Royal Oak will present wreaths. students will play Taps.

  • When: 6:30 p.m. Friday
  • Where:
  • Cost: $12 for adults, $6 for children and 5 and younger eat free.
  • Why go: Celebrate and honor veterans at this community dinner. All tickets sold in advance at the church. Proceeds will sponsor UMW missions.

  • Where: BlackFinn Restaurant & Saloon
  • Cost: Donation
  • Why go: With a donation to Make-A-Wish Foundation, you will receive complimentary appetizers and drink features.

  • Cost: Free
  • Why go: Take a break and enjoy live music from folk singer Matt Watroba as he returns to the library Saturday. Bring the family (children older than 7) and get ready to sing, laugh and learn.

  • Why go: The Grand Opening for the Royal Oak Historical Society's new exhibit Christmas Shopping Through the Years in Downtown Royal Oak  will feature decorated Christmas trees from the Victorian Era through the 1950s and photographs of area stores from the 1900s through the 1950s, along with holiday advertising campaigns and children's toys from all eras. Santa will make a special appearance, as well.
