A Royal Oak woman who recognized a 16-year-old autistic teenager who went missing from his home in Dearborn on Sept. 7 was presented with the Royal Oak Police Department Citizen Award Monday.
Royal Oak Police Chief Corrigan O'Donohue had these remarks for Tyeesha Nefrettie Mannning:
On Wednesday, Sept 11, during the early morning rush hour, Tyeesha Mannning observed a male walking on Campbell Road near 12 Mile Road. Ms. Manning recalled a recent news story of a missing autistic boy from Dearborn and thought the boy she had seen walking matched the boy's description. Tyeesha called the Royal Oak Police Department to report her observations.
Officers responded to the area, located the boy and were able to determine this person was the reported autistic child. The young boy had run away from home a few days prior and had been staying in parks. Tyeesha Mannning's keen observation and willingness to get involved by calling the police resulted in the safe return of the child to his parents.
