5 Things to Know this Week: City Commission, School Board and More

There's a lot going on in Royal Oak this week, including a City Commission meeting and a school board meeting.

2. Kindergarten Welcome Nights are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday: Royal Oak Schools will host Kindergarten Welcome Nights at each of the district’s six elementary schools through Dec. 14. Welcome Nights provide a time for parents of incoming kindergarten students to visit the school and meet the kindergarten teacher. Parents are encouraged to attend and see the building, staff and curriculum that their child will experience.

This week, incoming kindergarten students can visit on Tuesday and on Wednesday. Start time for each is 6:30 p.m.

3. The Biking Route Map Collaboration meets Wednesday: Residents of Berkley, Birmingham, Clawson, Ferndale, Pleasant Ridge and Royal Oak are invited and encouraged to attend to help map out safe and quick ways to get from here to there on bikes. The collaboration is collecting safe biking routes into one large regional biking map with help from the Oakland County mapping department. The group will meet at 7 p.m. in the

5. The school board meets Thursday: Royal Oak Schools Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. inside at 1123 Lexington Blvd. The meeting agenda is expected to be posted later in the week at royaloakschools.org.
