5 Things to Know this Week

Like most weeks, there is a lot going on in Royal Oak in the coming days. Here are some highlights.

There's always a lot going on in Royal Oak. Here are some highlights this week:

1. Planning Commission meets Tuesday: Residents may attend the Planning Commission meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at to voice their opinions on agenda topics. If you can’t make it, check back with Royal Oak Patch for updates after the meeting.

2. Jingle Bell Jazz on Wednesday: Jazz lovers won't want to miss Jingle Bell Jazz on Wednesday, presented by musicians under the direction of David Jensen. Featured groups include the Jazz Band, Jazz Ensemble, Alternative Strings, Flute Choir and Clarinet Choir. The event is at the again this year. It promises to be a festive night of music, food, fellowship and fun. "This is not a concert, it's a party," Jensen said. The show begins at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $10. Advance ticket sales through a participating student or the school are preferred for catering reasons, but tickets will be available at the door.

3. Spectrum Concert on Thursday: Enjoy the annual choral spectrum in the auditorium at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for adults, $7 for students, and are available by calling 248-435-8500, ext. 1019.

4. "Shopping in Royal Oak" on Saturday: On display at the are vintage Christmas decorations, gift items and photos of downtown Royal Oak from the 1900s to the 1960s. The museum is located in the historic Northwood Fire Station on Webster at Crooks road. Hours are 1- 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. While you are there, pick up books, artwork, plates and other items from Royal Oak's past for your holiday shopping list.

5. Skate with Santa on Sunday: The will host the annual Skate with Santa from 3:15-5:05 p.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $4 per person, $3 for children 5 and younger. Tickets are on sale now at the arena at 1403 Lexington Blvd.
