5 Things to Know This Week: Leaf Collection Starts, Daylight Saving Time Ends

There's a lot going on in Royal Oak this week. What do you have planned?

It's a busy week in Royal Oak, as usual. Here are five things you should know as you go about your week:

  1. Leaf collection starts Monday: Not so sexy but important, the 2012 leaf collection schedule will begin on Oct. 29. There will be six weeks of leaf collection in which the Department of Public Service (DPS) crews will be working to remove as many of the leaves as possible from the streets of the city. Each area of the city will be covered at least twice within the six weeks. Residents are asked to be mindful of the leaf collection schedule and to work with your neighbors to make this year a complete success.
  2. Concert on Tuesday: The Royal Oak Middle School band concert takes place at 7:00 p.m. at the Middle School auditorium.
  3. Halloween is Wednesday: Be on the lookout for children and adults prowling the neighborhoods for treats.
  4. Support the Royal Oak Animal Shelter on Saturday: Eat at Olga's Market Fresh Grille on from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturdays in November and a percentage of your bill will be donated to the Royal Oak Animal Shelter. You must present a fundraiser flyer when you order your meal. Visit http://www.roas.petfinder.com for more information and to download the correct flyer for you preferred date.
  5. Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday: Residents are reminded to set all their clocks back one hour at 2 a.m. and enjoy the extra sleep!
