5 Things to Know this Week: Meetings, Music, Oktoberfest and Art

Like most weeks, there is a lot going on in Royal Oak in the coming days. Here are some highlights.

There's always a lot going on in Royal Oak. Here are some highlights this week:

1. Planning Commission meets Tuesday: Residents can attend the Planning Commission meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at to voice their opinions on agenda topics. (See attached PDF.) If you can’t make it, check back with Royal Oak Patch for updates after the meeting.

2. School board meeting Thursday: The Royal Oak Schools Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. inside at 1123 Lexington Blvd. The meeting agenda is expected to be posted this week at royaloakschools.org.

3. Symphony on Friday: The Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra will perform its fall concert at l in the Dondero Auditorium at 8 p.m. Friday. The program includes the music of Maurice Ravel, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Jean Sibelius, Richard Wagner and Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Tickets are $10 at the door, senior pay $7 while 18 and younger are admitted free. Visit the orchestra online at royaloakorchestra.org.

4. Oktoberfest on Friday: Oktoberfest is part of a joint fundraiser for the and the . There will be polka dancing with the The Good Times Orchestra, a silent auction, edibles from  and, of course, a selection of locally brewed beer and wine. All of the profits from the sales go directly to the charity, while proceeds from ticket sales and silent auction bids will help the Royal Oak Farmers Market with renovations. Admission is $5 with children age 10 and younger free. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

5. Chalk & Chocolate Art Tour this weekend: The is Friday-Sunday in downtown Royal Oak. Retailers and restaurants have joined together to create a tour that features a variety of sensory delights. Chalk art will fill the streets, and chocolate sculptures and special menu items will be featured at participating retailers and restaurants.
