City Commission Meets Tonight

The Royal Oak City Commission meets tonight to discuss a wide variety of subjects.

The City Commission will review a request for amendments to the fiscal year 2011-12 budgets at its meeting Monday night. (A PDF of the fiscal year 2011-12 budget amendments is attached.)

The amendments do not include any changes to the Police and Fire Departments health care budgets. The city is in negotiations with these bargaining groups and potentially is close to settling tentative agreements, according to a letter to the City Commission signed by City Manager Don Johnson and Director of Finance Julie Rudd.

At their 7:30 p.m. regular meeting, city officials are expected to discuss a variety of matters, including:

  • Demolition of a neglected building at 303 Woodlawn.
  • Demolition of abandoned and unfinished construction at 620-646 W. 11 Mile Rd.
  • Resolution in support of Woodward 5 Sustainability Partnership Grant for the communities of Berkley, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Pleasant Ridge and Royal Oak.
  • Declaration to sell surplus equipment at auction.
  • Recommendations from the Hotel Motel Committee, which include applications for change of ownership, licensing fees and a requirement for motels and hotels to file updated plans of operation with the city.
  • Recommendations from the Liquor Control Committee.
  • Participation in the National League of Cities Sewer Warranty program.
  • Approval of the city's Strategic Plan.
  • Request to approve agreement of legal services of Hallahan & Associates.
  • Request to fill the budgeted vacant full-time payroll clerk position with a full-time accountant.
