Diane Hargan Announces Bid for Royal Oak City Commission

Hargan sees a seat on the city commission as an opportunity to present fresh ideas.

Diane Hargan, a 30-year Royal Oak resident who has never held public office, has decided to launch a campaign for one of three commission seats on the line in November.

Hargan, a licensed veterinary technician, stated her campaign will be about "low budget and high contact."

There are three open seats on the City Commission. As of Monday morning, Sharlan Douglas, Jeremy Mahrle  and incumbent David Poulton have also pulled petitions to run for city commissioner.

Hargan's announcement is as follows:

Diane Hargan, a 30 year resident of Royal Oak, announced she intends to seek election to the Royal Oak City Commission this November.

Having worked exclusively in the private sector, she sees an opportunity to bring a fresh perspective to the commission team.

Diane is a licensed veterinary technician, working for a private practice in Royal Oak. She also holds a license for "First Responder" in the state of Michigan. She is a bookkeeper for her husband's local heating and cooling business and is currently working on her certification with the intention of opening her own bookkeeping business.

"My campaign will be low budget and high contact. I love talking with people. My goals are to ensure that our citizens' voices are being heard, and to relay proposed projects, concerns and decisions in a way that everyone can understand. We all need to understand how these decisions will affect our lives, but equally as important, we need to know how these decisions will affect the city's budget."

Ms. Hargan and her husband live in one of the oldest homes in Royal Oak with their two rescue hounds, Daisy and Bones. They recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary and their grandson's seventh birthday.

Passionate about animals, Diane has been a member of the Michigan Humane Society for over 20 years. She has been a glass artist for three decades, donating some of her pieces to be auctioned for charity. She taught Veterinary Anatomy and Physiology to student technicians in the first fully online setting for its profession.

"I look forward to yet another chapter in my book of life and will do everything possible to earn the respect and trust of my fellow citizens."
