Saline Elections 2012: Your Guide to Area Ballots

These national, statewide and local candidates have already drawn attention in races that affect Saline.

Saline Patch is devoted to bringing you the information you need about 2012 political races that touch our community. Here are five candidates to watch in races locals are already talking about:

Saline City Hall

Mayoral candidates Brian Marl and Glenn Law are the only candidates to declare thus far in the City of Saline election. Marl serves on City Council. Law was one of council's longest serving members before resigning last fall to take a teaching job up north. The filing deadline for the Mayor and City Council is Aug. 7.

52nd House District

Mark Ouimet, the incumbent Republican from Scio Township faces a challenge from Saline Mayor Gretchen Driskell, Democratic candidate. Although the redrawn district leans Republican, Saline's longest-serving mayor aims to give the Republican a race.

School Board

Lisa Slawson and Dawn Ducca are the only two candidates to announce their candidacy thus far for the two available seats. Slawson is President of the School Board. Ducca has been very active in PTA in Saline Schools. Board Vice Presdient Chuck Lesch said he does not plan to seek re-election. Slawson and Ducca are running as a team.

York Township

Joe Zurawski is challenged by Republicans Chuck Tellas and John Stanowski for the township supervisor's position in the August primary. The winner will face Democratic candidate Joan Alexander. For Trustee, five Republicans are battling for four spots on the ballot. In the running are incumbents Jill Hargrove and Jane Kartje, and Dan Pichla, Brian Iott, and Thomas Preston. Incumbent Gary Zajac is the only Democratic candidate on the ballot.

Lodi Township

Jan Godek, incumbent, is being challenged by Republicans Karen Edman and Jeffrey Feldkamp in the primary. There are no other contested races in Lodi Township at the moment.

Byron Staebler, one of Lodi Township's incumbent trustees running for re-election, has died. There are 5 candidates who have filed an intent to run as a write-in for a trustee position. Therefore, there are 8 candidates to consider for the 4 trustee positions being voted on in this election.
