Fence Report Coming in August

City Manager Don Johnson has tasked the Traffic Improvement Association (TIA) with trying to come up with alternative solutions for Royal Oak property owners with fences that are not in compliance with the vision obstruction provision in the city’s fence ordinance.

At its June 17 meeting, the Royal Oak City Commission asked city staff to look at alternatives, including parabolic mirrors, audio signals and signs, to address vision obstruction issues, after residents complained violations got out of hand.

Johnson plans to present the TIA's recommendations at the Aug. 12 city commission meeting. The city manager originally planned to get back to commissioners this month, but he has not received the TIA's report as of July 2.

"I will be prepared to give the commission a more comprehensive report after we have received and analyzed (the TIA's) report," Johnson wrote in memo.
