Howley Calls for Three Separate Debates with Patterson

With less than 40 days until the election, Democrat Kevin Howley says, "It's time to debate."

With time dwindling down before the election, Democratic candidate for Oakland County Executive, Kevin Howley, again challenged long time incumbent L. Brooks Patterson to a series of debates to discuss the serious issues facing the county.

“My thoughts continue to be with Mr. Patterson and I’m glad to hear that he’s planning on being back to work in just a few short weeks,” Howley said. “With less than 40 days until the election, Mr. Patterson has asserted that he is simply running on his record. If that’s true, Mr. Patterson will not be presenting voters with a single new idea or new concept that will move Oakland County forward.”

Between 2000 and 2010, Oakland County lost 175,000 jobs, our median household income has declined by more than 15 percent, our property values have plummeted, schools are closing and the number of children on Medicaid has more than doubled.

“Given all of the challenges facing Oakland County,” Howley continued, “We believe the future of Oakland County depends on new ideas and innovative thinking – and we’ve put those ideas on the table. Voters now deserve a thorough discussion on these issues.”

Howley called for three separate debates: one focused on unemployment and jobs in the county; another focused on attracting and retaining young people and entrepreneurs; and a final debate focused on neighborhood and property value stabilization.

“Voters deserve a leader who can not only recognize the challenges, but one who can also provide solutions,” Howley said. “I am running to challenge the old way of thinking and to bring energy and new ideas to the office of Oakland County Executive.”

Howley urged Patterson not to take this election lightly and to contact his campaign manager as soon as possible in order to schedule these debates. “It’s great we have been blessed with the resources to have a balanced budget and AAA bond rating, but what’s next?”
