The last round of leaf pickups in 2013 ends Friday for the City of Royal Oak.

Workers have begun to make a third pass through town, according to the Department of Public Service (DPS). Trucks will be out Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Got bags?

If you missed raking your leaves to the street you can bag them, however, next week is the last week that bagged leaves will be picked up.

The city's trucks will soon be converted to plows and any leaves left on the street will be plowed onto your front lawn the first time there is 4-inches or more of snow if you don't take action to bag leaves in time for your regular collection day next week.

Whoever plans the leaf schedule ever year has no clue on when leaves start to fall from trees. Here's a clue that will help you Royal Oak city planners: Start your pick up schedule A FEW WEEKS LATER!! Our first pick up was mid-October when there were 7 leaves on the ground. Our city services are the lamest. Smaller cities with less taxes have better services. In Southgate, the street sweeper FOLLOWS the garbage truck route! Why can't Royal Oak follow logic??

I do not think that anyone can predict when the leafs will fall completely from the trees, much depends on the mother nature. The DPS does a great job at leaf collection as well as snow removal and year round work, especially with reduced manpower. One can always bag or use yard waste containers that will be picked up with your regular weekly refuge collection. Ask not what your city can do for you, but what you can do for your city!!
