Letter to the Editor: City Commission Considers Non-Motorized Transportation Plan

Making Royal Oak a safe place to walk and ride a bicycle is the goal of adding a Non-Motorized Transportation Plan to the city's master plan.

The following letter was sent to Royal Oak Patch by Tom Regan, a Royal Oak resident:

Dear Editor:

The Royal Oak City Commission will consider whether or not to add a proposed Non-Motorized Transportation Plan to the City of Royal Oak Master Plan at its Monday meeting at at 7:30 p.m.

We first approached the city commission about adopting a non-motorized plan in November 2008. The non-motorized plan was drafted by the Active Transportation consulting company in 2010-2011.  The Royal Oak City Planning Commission approved the final version in April of this year, and the city commission will consider that version at their meeting.

This is great news for everyone in Royal Oak who wants to see our city become a safe place to walk and ride a bicycle.  We invite everyone who wants to make Royal Oak a safer place to walk and ride a bike to attend the city commission meeting Monday and let the commission know you support this effort.
