Paperwork Delays Greenfield Road Improvements in Oakland County

Residents won't be seeing any improvements on pothole-riddled Greenfield Road as the $3M road renovation project hit a snag this week.

Road work was expected to begin on Greenfield Road this week, but city officials say that due to unsigned paperwork and stalled legislation in Lansing the initiative will be postponed, The Oakland Press reports.

“Greenfield is horrible, it’s hazardous for drivers and it also wears on your tires,” Tia Moore, who drives Greenfield Road every day, told Patch. “It has been too long since this road was worked on and we can’t go through another winter with this road continuing to be like this.”

Due to numerous potholes, Greenfield Road between Eight Mile and Nine Mile is one of the Oakland County’s worst roads.

In February, Brenda Lawrence, Mayor of Southfield, wanted to shut down Greenfield Road altogether.

“I would like to propose and talk about closing that road,” Lawrence told WXYZ-TV. “It is unacceptable.”

The project is still expected to be finished by October and includes complete pavement removal and replacement. The city will meet the Americans with Disabilities requirements for crosswalks and improve existing ones. A water main will also be installed.
