Parking, Festival, Budget on DDA's Agenda Today

Royal Oak Downtown Development Authority to consider proposed changes to Arts, Beats & Eats, credit card parking meters and more when it meets this afternoon.

Royal Oak Downtown Development Authority members will meet 4 p.m. today  to discuss myriad of issues ranging from parking to Arts, Beats & Eats to enhancing the city’s holiday lights.

DDA Executive Director Tim Thwing is also expected to present a report on the parking meter test utilizing credit card capable meters. It is Thwing’s recommendation that if these meters are used, the machines should be placed in high-use zones and charge $1 an hour during all enforcement periods. The meters used as part of the test charged 50 cents per hour before 5 p.m. and 75 cents per hour after 5 p.m.

  • streetscape priorities;
  • parking lease renewal with the Detroit Zoo;
  • discussing the letter issued by the Royal Oak city manager on proposed changes to the Arts, Beats & Eats festival, including expanding the festival boundaries and extending the agreement for Royal Oak to host the event; and
  • presenting a draft of the DDA’s $2 million budget.

The DDA meets on the second floor of City Hall, 211 Williams St.
