Property Maintenance Code on City Commission Agenda Monday

Royal Oak officials will tackle a short agenda when they meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall.

At their 7:30 p.m. regular meeting Monday at City Hall, Royal Oak officials are expected to debate a variety of matters, including the city's Property Maintenance Code, which requires residents to reasonably maintain their property.

Restoring a Royal Oak Bungalow - a Criminal Offensewhich was posted on Patch by Emily Felix on Oct. 30, created a flurry of comments from readers who sympathized with the Royal Oak homeowner's portrayal of a red tape nightmare created while trying to restore a house built in 1923.

Felix met with Commissioner Kyle DuBuc on Nov. 1.

"He recognized that we are doing a restoration of the exterior, not merely a paint job, that we are working diligently on the house, and shared our desire to avoid this escalating further. It is so unfortunate that it ever got to this point. From what we understand from talking to people, there are other commissioners who share this view," wrote Felix on her Facebook page.

Other agenda items

  • Hotel Motel Occupancy Limitation Ordinance
  • Ordinance amendments to allow for electronic transmittals of applicant information
  • Request to fill vacancy deputy city clerk
  • Transfer of responsibilities for rehabilitation board of appeals and brownfield redevelopment authority to Planning Commission
  • Set Date for 2014 Strategic Planning meeting
