Royal Oak Activist Group Announces Public Forum

Residents will discuss pressing city and school financial concerns at Sept. 24 forum.

Royal Oak Citizens for Accountability, Sustainability, and Transparency (CAST) will hold a public forum to share information on pressing city and school financial concerns from 7-9 p.m. on Sept. 24 at the

Discussion will be based on "fact and not emotions that have clouded these issues in the past," said organizer Bill Shaw in a press realease.

Shaw, who will facilitate the discussion, will provide material in a basic and understandable manner, he said.

The following topics will be discussed:

  • How we got here, where we’re at, and we’re going
  • Public versus private sectors
  • State Laws and Royal Oak costs: PA 312, Proposal A, Headlee Amendment, Urban Cooperation, State Financial Managers
  • Royal Oak pension benefits and post-employment benefits
  • How pensions work and are calculated
  • City and school district millage proposal

Students are welcome to attend the forum.

"Students will be responsible for much of the debt generated," said Shaw in a press release. “They may as well learn early how this process works.”
