Royal Oak City Commission to Discuss Budget Tonight

Officials will dissect the proposed document in a series of special workshop meetings in May.

City Commission members will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday on the third floor of to discuss Royal Oak's $35 million budget for 2011-12/2012-13. A budget overview, including budget policies, will be presented, and there will be discussion on some individual funds included in the budget document.

The individual funds scheduled for discussion Thursday include those for the mayor and City Commission, city manager, city clerk and elections, city attorney, human resources, planning, Community Development Block Grants, the Downtown Development Authority, ordinance enforcement, the state construction code, the Arts, Beats & Eats festival and Woodward Dream Cruise.

Discussion of other funds comprising the entire budget, such as police, fire and street funds, will be discussed in budget workshop meetings May 18-19.

Individual fund discussions will include a review of financial data, the organizational chart, measurable goals and objectives and the mission statement for that employee or city function.

Following all budget workshop special meetings, a public hearing is set for 7:30 p.m. June 6. Adoption of the budget is expected after the public hearing.
