Royal Oak to Call Back 2 Laid-Off Police Officers

With two retirements scheduled, city officials act quickly to fill the positions.

Two recall of laid off police officers was approved Monday night in the first action of the .

City Manager Don Johnson told commissioners that officers Saundra Stiner and David McLennan have put in notices to retire. Stiner’s last day is scheduled to be Wednesday and McLennan’s last day will be Jan. 20.

Johnson recommended filling the vacant positions by calling back two of three laid off officers. That would maintain police department staffing at 66 sworn officers, Johnson said.

The motion was approved unanimously with commissioners praising the Royal Oak Police Department for its responsiveness, professionalism and quick arrests in the city’s two recent murder cases and other criminal activities.
