Royal Oak Schools Closed, Snow Emergency Declared

The latest winter storm is expected to dump nearly a foot of snow and drop temperatures well below zero, the National Weather Service reports.

The following statement is from the City of Royal Oak:

A snow emergency has been declared in the City of Royal Oak as of 4:40 p.m., Jan. 5. Snow Emergency conditions are generally defined as a snowfall of four inches or more and will remain in effect until your street has been plowed.  All vehicles on residential streets are to be removed or will be towed and/or ticketed. Vehicles are to remain off the streets until plow trucks have gone through the area. Once a snow emergency is called and plowing begins, it takes approximately 24-36 hours to plow all city streets, depending on how much snow has fallen. Check here for additional snow emergency information.

The following is a statement from Royal Oak Schools Superintendent Shawn Lewis-Lakin:

Royal Oak Schools will be closed on Monday, Jan. 6.  We will continue to monitor weather and travel conditions.

The cars on my street stay in the street next to the fire hydrant, no problem.
