SURVEY: Readers Want New Playground Equipment, Amphitheater

There is still time to chime in the the "What's On Your Wish List for Royal Oak Parks?" survey.

The Patch poll asking readers, "What's On Your Wish List for Royal Oak Parks?" has been up less than 24 hours. With 75 people thus far responding to the unscientific poll, new playground equipment for city parks is at top of Royal Oaker's list.

The top five things readers are saying they want are:

  • New or upgraded playground equipment 
  • A plan for an outdoor amphitheater 
  • A splash pad 
  • A plan for bike lanes
  • A swimming pool 

The estimated cost for the top five items on the readers' wish list is more than $4.8 million. The big ticket item on the list is the swimming pool at $4 million.

  • Installing a public address booth at Memorial Park 
  • Outdoor renovations at the Senior Center 
  • Purchasing four portable bleachers 
  • Make parking improvements at Memorial and Mark Twain parks
  • Upgrading signage 


Who's taking the poll?


Of the 75 people that have taken the poll so far, 100 percent identify them themselves as Royal Oakers; more than 75 percent say they have lived in Royal Oak more than 11 years; half have children living at home that are under 18 years old; and 97 percent say they are registered to vote.

The biggest age group sounding off are the 25- to 34-year-olds, followed by those aged 35 to 44.
