The Royal Oak Police Department is investigating a serious injury accident that occurred in the intersection of Fourth Street and Washington at approximately 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21.

The preliminary investigation indicates a 34-year-old man driving a 2013 Dodge Durango was making a left turn from southbound Washington onto eastbound Fourth Street, proceeding on a green light. A 35-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man were in the crosswalk, crossing Fourth Street on the east side of Washington. The driver of the Durango did not see the pedestrians and struck them with his vehicle, resulting in serious injuries to them.

Both pedestrians were transported to William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak where they are listed in serious condition. The driver of the Durango was not injured. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
