As Thursday's Royal Oak Planning Commission meeting, residents expressed excitement in public comment that an unfinished condo project, once scheduled for demolition, is beginning to show signs of life.
Jason Craig, the city's chief building official, confirmed building permits were issued on July 1.
"The project will look very similar to the original plan," Craig told Patch in July. "The layout was tweaked but the concept and the exterior are the same."
Because new owner Joe Dfouny signed off on the framework of the original development, he does not need to go before the commission for approval, Craig said.
Construction on the original project stopped seven years ago after $500,000 of footings and basement/foundation walls were placed. In March 2012, the Royal Oak City Commission voted to have city officials seek bids for the demolition of unfinished project.
Dfouny sent Patch floor plans of the new floor plan layout. (See attached PDF.)
