Royal Oak Fire Department's 100th Anniversary Celebration

Getting the Museum ready for Royal Oak Fire Department's 100th Anniversary Celebration.

A WEEK AT THE MUSEUM

Tues. May 7, 2013

Volunteer Lindsay Z, came in early in answer to my plea for help.  I could not figure out how to get all 79 retired Firemen’s names in the ROFD History booklet.  Lindsay to the rescue…not only did she put all the names where they should go, she emailed the attachment to Jeff at Image Printing.

Volunteers Glenn K & Randy B set up the display of equipment that Jeff Hegerberger brought in on Wed.

Fireman Mike Pennanen brought in 20 emergency cones to be used to partition off the parking area and the driveway.

A young woman who came in last week to view the Founding Families Exhibit came back to take several pictures of her ancestors and the write up.

A Granddad and his little Grandson came into see the “Fireman’s stuff.”  He was really excited when Glenn took them upstairs……I have no idea what he thought he might find upstairs.

Mr. Hassburger brought in over 40 photos of Fire Engines.  He loaned them to us for the Fire Dept. 100th.   They will be up on our display walls by Sat.

Volunteer Dawn Arnold (who is a display designer at Macy’s) came in to dress our mannequin in the Fireman’s Turn Out clothing.

A really busy day!  Firemen delivering several additional items for the exhibit, volunteers Glenn K. and Randy B finding places to display them to full advantage.

Deliveries of bottled water and pop by our generous donors.

Also major housecleaning of exhibit area…includin bathrooms.  Thanks to Glenn. K

An incredible day at the Museum.  ROFD 100th Anniversary Celebration.

9 am Randy B and Firefighter Mike Pennanen began setting up
tents and tables and chairs.  All other volunteers began to arrive: Rick & Maureen Sage with Food from the Restaurants, Fire Dept brought in our amazing new extension ladder truck.

Jim Halsey drove in the 1944 Troy Fire Truck, Jon Murrel drove in a beautiful 1930 Ford, Berkley fire truck with a huge stuffed Dalmatian in the front seat.

Visitors started arriving around 11 am, even though the trucks were not all ready and the hot dogs had not started to cook.   Volunteer Kimberly Lower drove in from Holly to help with the children and the registration area.

All in all the kids had the best time…shooting the fire hose at the little house, having their pictures taken in our photo op fire truck,  wearing their firemen helmets, and stick on badges, thanks to the ROFD, and talking to the off duty Fire Fighters and the retired Fireman giving tours of the Station.
