A WEEK AT THE MUSEUM

Another busy week at the Museum. Filled with 2nd graders doing a Social Studies project for their Northwood Elementary Teachers.

Tues.  May 14,
2013

I do believe that we have enough Pop and Water left over from the ROFD 100th to supply our CarShow on Wed. August 14, 2013.  Volunteers Don Calder, Randy Burean and Glenn Klosterhaus spent the morning finding storage locations in the Museum for the extra cases...

Forever Royal Oakers,  Roger & June Van Dyke, dropped in to give
the Museum a donation of a Girl Scout sash with badges from Nancy Sanders.

A woman came in, found a picture of her Grandmother in our old class composites  and in a year book, asked if we could make copies for her.  Yes we will. She will come back this week to pick them up.

A mom and daughter from Northwood Elementary came in for information on a 2nd grade history project.  We were able to find what she needed in a few pictures.  Then a mom & son came in…NW elementary, 2nd grade history project, Rita
Simons had to do a little research so she asked them to come back for the
pictures which they did.

Time to clean up and file artifacts in their proper locations.

Rita Simons, Susan Wolfrum & Glenn Klosterhaus worked upstairs all
morning.  Late lunch today, Adair Calder joined us and then went to work in the Library.

A young man, Mark Malloy, who grew up in RO next door to the Ellisons, was our first visitor of the afternoon.  He is a contractor, just finished a job and had a little time.  He will bring his brother back soon.

Next two more Moms from Northwood Elementary and their 2nd graders dropped in to see if we might have pictures from the era they were assigned.  We did, and they all left happy with copies of photos for their project.  One of the girls little brother really wanted one of the airplanes that we sell at our gift counter….I asked him “do you have $5.00?”  He gave a sad little look at his mom and said “No.” and Mom didn’t have any money either…but they will be back I’m sure.

Sat. May 18, 2013

A busy afternoon.  Two 2nd graders from the Northwood Elementary School Social Studies were in looking for information on a certain period in time in Royal Oak’s
history.

The first little boy had the time period of 1917.  He wanted to do his
project on the Police Dept. The next little girl had the time period of the late 1870-80s and wanted to do her project on the first telephone in the Stortz General store
We have a display of phones in a case with all the information she needed.  I played the 1906 Victrola, that belonged to the Stortz family,  for them.  The kids thought it was "pretty Cool."

A mom, daughter and son-in-law from FL cane in to visit.  The Mom graduated from Dondero in 1969.  She found her yearbook and ones just before and after her graduation.  She had a grand time showing the young people pictures of herself and her brothers in the different year books.

Retired Fire Chief Ron Nancarrow brought his wife and daughter in to see the Fire Dept. exhibit.  He even took them upstairs to show them where he slept.
