The Bullycide Project comes to Royal Oak presented by Royal Oak Middle School, Royal Oak Schools, Optimist Club of Royal Oak, Support Our Youth Task Force, Royal Oak Woman's Club & Royal Oak SAFE (Suicide Awareness is For Everyone)

Royal Oak, Mich -- A study released by  the journal JAMA Pediatrics this month found that victims of bullying were more than twice as likely to consider suicide as other kids, and approximately 2.5 times as likely to kill themselves, (Click Here for JAMA Study).  Teasing, harassment, physical abuse and cyberbullying were all found to be harmful, with victims of cyberbullying being three times as likely than other kids to have suicidal thoughts. Believing this is an issue the community needs to address, several organizations including Royal Oak Middle School, Royal Oak Schools, Royal Oak Optimists, Royal Oak Woman’s Club, Royal Oak SAFE and Royal Oak Support Our Youth came together to bring the acclaimed "Bullycide Project" to Royal Oak Middle School on Wednesday, March 19.  "We take this very seriously," said Royal Oak Schools Counselor Kathy Knapp, a member of Royal Oak SAFE and Royal Oak Support Our Youth Task Force.

The Bullycide Project is based on the book Bullycide in America, compiled by Brenda High and written by mothers who have lost a child to suicide due to excessive bullying. The Project tells the true stories of ten individuals who committed bullycide, as well as personal stories of members in our cast on subjects ranging from isolation to cutting. Experience the "Power of the Project". Performed for grades 6-12.
