333 Names Called During Royal Oak High School Graduation

Royal Oak grads received diplomas at Freedom Hill on Friday.

With a graduating class of 333 students, seniors and their families and friends filled the Freedom Hill Amphitheatre on Friday night for the class of 2013's graduation ceremonies.

The ceremony marked the return of commencement to Sterling Heights. Last year the commencement was held on school grounds, but seniors successfully lobbied the Royal Oak Board of Education to return commencement to Freedom Hill, which was used by the district for five years until it closed in 2009.

The evening was marked by recognition of student achievement and expressions of pride as graduates listened to speeches by Yousif Maizy, class president, and Claire McNorton, who was selected from a pool of applicants. Retiring Interim Principal Jim Moll gave the commencement address.
