Family Engineering Night: The Next Gen & Careers of the Future

Family Engineering Night is part of a county-wide initiative to help parents get their children interested in emerging technologies via an exciting evening of hands-on activities at Oakland Schools Technical Campuses. Upper-elementary and middle school students will explore STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) with mom or dad in a fun introductory evening complete with snacks and door prizes.

“Students who think about an engineering problem and then have the chance to do hands-on work on creating a solution are far more likely to understand what engineering is all about. Family Engineering Night generates a lot of enthusiasm, and hopefully helps to generate future Engineers,” said Mike McIntyre,Career Focused Education (CFE) STEM Coordinator for Oakland Schools.

Oakland Schools Technical Campuses offer a free Engineering/Emerging Technologies (EET) college-and-career readiness program to high school juniors and seniors in Oakland County. The intensive EET “cluster” prepares students for a highly paid technical, design or engineering career in new areas that are critical for the economic success of our country.

“Our goal is to catch children at a younger age and get them interested in Engineering. Our Family Engineering Nights offer kids and parents an opportunity to go station-to-station, interact with a series of activities and actually engage in engineering tasks,” McIntyre commented. “We want to meet the next generation of problem-solvers!”

There are four Family Engineering Nights to choose from. The events are free but space is limited – REGISTER NOW:
