Cowboys, Cowgirls Step Out Before Daddy Daughter Dance

A group of dads treated their daughters to dinner Friday at Lockhart's Barbecue before the hoedown at Northwood Elementary.

A group of Royal Oak dads stepped out Friday for dinner before a night of dancing with their daughters during the Northwood Elementary Daddy Daughter Dance.

"It's a tradition. It came about as a way to make the dance, which is always special for the girls, even more memorable by adding the dinner,” said Rick Saro, who has organized the dinner for the past six years. He still has two more years to go before his youngest daughter is off to middle school.

Saro said the dads enjoy bonding year after year as much as the girls do.

With this year’s hoedown theme, it was natural to select as the spot for dinner, Saro said. Twenty dads gathered with 27 girls all dressed in their favorite cowboy attire.

“About three years ago, by mistake, the girls ended up at their own table,” Saro said. “They enjoyed it so much we set up that way each year.”
