Need to Know: Calendar for Royal Oak 2011-12 School Year

Want to schedule a child's dentist appointment or plan a family vacation around spring break next year? Get out your calendar, because we have the dates you've been looking for.

Starting Sept. 6, school is back in session for Royal Oak Neighborhood Schools. It's never too early to begin planning, so here are the dates you need to know for the 2011-12 school year.

September

  • Sept. 6: First full day of school for students 

October

  • Oct. 6: Early release for elementary students
  • Oct. 12:  and late start for students

November

  • Nov. 1: Professional development day — no school for students
  • Nov. 11: Records day for elementary; early release for elementary students
  • Nov. 23: Half-day for all students and staff
  • Nov. 24-25: Thanksgiving holiday recess
  • Nov. 28: School resumes

December

  • Dec. 7: ROHS and ROMS late start for students
  • Dec. 19-Jan. 2: Holiday recess

January

  • Jan. 3: School resumes
  • Jan. 4: ROHS and ROMS late start for students
  • Jan. 16: Martin Luther King Jr. Day — no school for students
  • Jan. 25-27: High school exams
  • Jan. 30: Teacher records day — no school for students

February

  • Feb. 1: ROHS and ROMS late start for students
  • Feb. 2: Early release for elementary students
  • Feb. 16-17: Midwinter recess
  • Feb. 20: School resumes

March

  • March 30: Elementary records day — early release for students

April

  • April 2-6: Spring recess
  • April 9: School resumes

May

  • May 2: ROHS and ROMS late start for students
  • May 3: Early release for elementary students
  • May 28: Memorial Day — no school

June

  • June 13-15: High school exams
  • June 15: Last day of school
