Record Number of Royal Oak Students Qualify for State Honors Choir

Six Royal Oak Middle School (ROMS) sixth- and seventh grade students and eight Royal Oak High School (ROHS) 9th grade students have qualified to participate in the Michigan School Vocal Music Association (MSVMA) Middle School State Honors Choir. Auditions were held Oct. 19.

“We sent 14 students, the most I've ever sent to Regionals,” said ROMS Choral Director Diane Mehringer. “It's been a great start to a great year!”

According to ROHS Choral Director Deborah Buffa, this is the highest number of qualifying singers Royal Oak Schools has ever had.

The ROMS sixth- and seventh graders auditioned as duets:

  • Grace Huber and Marley Councilor
  • Madison Hopson and Madelynn Lixie
  • Lauryn Randolph and Samantha O'Sullivan

The ROHS Ninth graders auditioned as trios:

The students will rehearse in cities throughout Michigan. The State Honors Choir will then perform at the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids, MI on Jan.16, 2014.
