Royal Oak High School Graduation Moved to Freedom Hill

The Class of 2013 have booked the Sterling Heights amphitheater for their 2013 commencement celebration.

Seniors assembled at Royal Oak High School learned a valuable lesson today, according to Principal Jim Moll. When you make a request in a manner that is appropriate, polite, respectful and intelligent, people tend to listen.

When student leaders of the Class of 2013 asked school officials if they could move commencement ceremonies from the high school to the Freedom Hill Amphitheatre in Sterling Heights, they were greeted with some reluctance.

"The students met with the superintendent and the school board president and made an impassioned plea," Moll said. "They did everything right."

Moll said he made a deposit on the venue today, to the delight of seniors.

Royal Oak High School's graduation ceremony on May 31 will be the first event at the 7,200-seat facility, which closed in 2009. It will proceed the official opening of the amphitheater by two weeks when Grammy-winning band Lady Antebellum will headlining as an opening act.
