Are Royal Oak Public Schools Closed Today?

Records Day keeps students out of the classrooms on Jan. 24.

If you are wondering why the Royal Oak School District isn't appearing on any "school closings" lists, the answer is simple.

"On the Royal Oak Schools calendar today, Friday, Jan. 24 is a student records day," said Superintendent Shawn Lewis-Lakin.  "It is not a day when students are scheduled to be in school.  Staff members are working on completing first semester grading and preparing for the start of second semester, which begins on  Monday."

Students home from school today should stay indoors. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a wind chill advisory through 4 p.m.

Wind chills will remain between 15 and 20 degrees below zero today as wind gusts increase to near 40 mph by afternoon, according to NWS.

"Exposure to such bitterly cold temperatures will cause frost bite in a short period of time," states the advisory.
