Royal Oak Superintendent Contract Talks On Track

Lewis-Lakin set to start new job July 1. 'We should have a very good contract,' school board President Gary Briggs said.

Contract talks with Royal Oak superintendent choice Shawn Lewis-Lakin are progressing as scheduled, Board of Education President Gary Briggs said.

“Monday night we met and everything went well,” Briggs said.  Lewis-Lakin and the board’s employment relations committee are in the process of finalizing details, Briggs said, adding he expects the contract to go before the Board of Education for approval during its May 12 meeting.

“We should have a very good contract,” Briggs said. Details of the contract will be made available after it is finalized.

Lewis-Lakin – the current superintendent of Manchester Community School District – was unanimously chosen as the next Royal Oak schools superintendent during a special April 20 board of education meeting. He accepted the position April 21.

Upon finalization of his contract, Lewis-Lakin would begin his new role July 1, replacing current Superintendent Thomas Moline. Moline retires in June after six years with the district.
