Sparty Visits Upton Elementary School

"Go green, go white" echoed in the gymnasium today as students celebrated National Reading Month with the Michigan State University mascot.

The students at had a special visitor from East Lansing today - Sparty!

The Michigan State University mascot came to Royal Oak to get the students excited about reading by acting out a children's book, leading chants and taking group photos with the students.

Many of the students wore green, Sparty's favorite color, and all cheered loudly when the tall mascot entered the gym.

The visit was courtesy of Sparty’s pals Alex, 9, and Zack, 5, Eisenberg. The boys'  father, Jeff Eisenberg, MSU class of ’84, arranged for the visit through the MSU Oakland County Alumni Club.

Sparty took time to visit every classroom at Upton before hopping on a bus and heading to Columbus where he will cheer on the top-seeded Spartans when they play Long Island University-Brooklyn on Friday.
