Superintendent Shawn Lewis provides information on holiday recess, clubs for students, enrollment and the expansion of Advanced Placement offerings.

The following information was provided by Royal Oak schools chief Shawn Lewis-Lakin.

Holiday Recess: The holiday school recess begins at the end of the day onFriday, December 20, 2013.  School will resume on Thursday, January 2, 2014.  The Board of Education and Central Administration Offices will be open December 23, 26, 27, and 30; however individual personnel in various departments may be using vacation time.

Holidays and school recess periods provide opportunities for renewal and rest. As 2013 winds down and a New Year is welcomed, may you find opportunities for connecting with that which guides and energizes you.

Royal Oak High School Robotics Program:   Royal Oak High School offers a variety of clubs and activities for students. The Robotics Teams at Royal Oak High School inspire greater levels of respect and honor for science and technology, and encourage students to become scientists, engineers, and technologists. Robotics is a team activity that competes in both an Oakland County league and in nationally sanctioned competitions. Royal Oak High School Expands AP Programs:   At their regular meeting on December 12th, our Board of Education acted to add three new Advanced Placement courses to the offerings at Royal Oak High School.  "We are very excited about expanding Advanced Placement opportunities for our students at Royal Oak High School," stated Royal Oak Social Studies Department Leader, Alec Snyder. "Our school is committed to increasing the number students who are 'college-ready', and our AP course offerings help us accomplish this goal." All ROHS AP courses are offered on-site, where student have access to the many activities and advantages of a comprehensive community-based high school. AP exams, taken each spring, qualify students to receive post-secondary academic credit. On a regular basis, Royal Oak High School graduates enter college and university programs with second year academic status because of the opportunities afforded them in high school.   For more information, click here

Enrollment Office Now Taking Enrollments:   Our Royal Oak Schools Central Enrollment Office enrolls students on an ongoing basis throughout the year. We are seeing many families who over the summer opted to try alternative educational settings return to our district. Following the holiday break, or at the beginning of a new semester (January 27), are ideal times for transitions back to our Royal Oak Schools. The enrollment office is also processing new student enrollments for the 2014-2015 school year. For more information regarding the student enrollment process, please visit our enrollment office webpage, or contact our enrollment coordinator, Barbara Sparks at 435-8400, ext. 1260.
