VIDEO: Students Practice Techniques for Chalk & Chocolate Art Tour

Royal Oak High School art students spend Wednesday afternoon experimenting with chalk and pastels.

The Chalk & Chocolate Art Tour hits downtown Royal Oak in just more than a week. The event features chocolate creations and original chalk art by professional artists and students at various downtown restaurants and retailers.

Wednesday, art students got to hone their chalk art techniques with the help of professional artists Timothy Wells Householder of Ann Arbor and Larry Stephens of Oxford. Using the sidewalk as their canvas, the students practiced with pastels and street chalk.

On Oct. 15-16, approximately three dozen Royal Oak art students will bring their designs to life in the Stagecrafters pedestrian mall between Lafayette and Washington south of Fourth Street. Royal Oak’s elementary and middle schools are also involved in this event that is a true celebration of art and school fundraiser of sorts. Twenty percent of all proceeds raised by the Chalk & Chocolate Tour will go to the Royal Oak Neighborhood Schools Arts Club Fund.
