Vote Through April 30 for Royal Oak Teacher Nominated for Media Educator of the Year

A former student has nominated Michael Conrad for the Specs Howard School of Media Arts award. He needs votes to win.

Royal Oak High School teacher Michael Conrad has been nominated for the Specs Howard School of Media Arts’ High School Media Educator of the Year Award.  

One of his former students nominated Conrad as “the teacher who was instrumental in my decision to pursue a career in media production”.  

Every student needs someone to believe in them and their dreams. The purpose of the Specs Howard School award is to recognize educators who have supported their students in pursuing an education to prepare them for the media industry.

The competition is driven by public vote and you may vote daily here.  Voting is open now thru April 30th. All Media Educator nominees will be invited to the Media Educator Luncheon on May 9, where the 2014 Media Educator of the Year will be announced. 

The top three vote recipients receive equipment that can be helpful to their classroom environment, such as a MacBook Pro, 42-inch LED TV, or an iPad.

Prior joining the Royal Oak High School faculty, Conrad spent 20 years in the broadcast industry in both public and commercial broadcasting. His experience runs the gamut of promotions, engineering, production, live music and advertising sales. 

He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in radio and television broadcasting and a Master of Arts teaching degree in career and technical education from Wayne State University in Detroit. He is also a board member of the student film festival organization DAFT-Digital Arts, Film and Television.
