Weekend Planner: Fun Fest, Fish Fries, Safari and More

A roundup of weekend happenings in Royal and surrounding areas.

Enjoy food, fun, games, crafts, music, dancing, and great auction items at this family friendly event on Friday from 6-9:30 p.m. This is the fourth year for the event presented by the PTA at the school. The entry fee is $3 adults, $2 children; dinner is $5 adults, $3 children.

On Friday, the Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra perfoms at 8 p.m. in the Dondero Auditorium at . This performance includes music from Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Johannes Brahms and Ludwig van Beethoven. Tickets are available at the door: $10 adults, $7 students/seniors; 18 and under are free.

With the start of Lent comes the season of fish fries. Many churches and organizations host one and most restaurants feature some catch-of-the-day special on their menus. We found a few places where you can get your fish fry fix.

Beat the winter blues this season during our Wild Winter Weekends at the Detroit Zoo. Wild Winter is a unique, fun way to experience the magic of the Zoo in winter. Enjoy your favorite habitats indoors and out along with special activities including children’s music, zookeeper talks, crafts and much more. Free with admission: $15/ages 15-plus, $8/ages 2-14.

5. 

Time to get your green on. Come out to celebrate as the Norman O'Brien Division of the Ancient Order of Hiberians hosts the Oakland County St. Patrick's Day Parade. The parade begins at the  parking lot and proceeds south on Washington, passing the judges/announcer reviewing stand at the intersection of Sixth and Washington before turning west on Seventh and ending at the  parking lot. The parade starts at 11:30 a.m. Arrive early for a good spot to watch the parade.
