American Heart Association to Host Detroit Heart Walk on May 3 and Washtenaw County Heart Walk on May 10

Individuals/Community teams encouraged to sign up and raise funds for cardiovascular research

 

Who: American Heart Association, community members across metro Detroit and Washtenaw County

 

What: Metro Detroit Heart Walk on Saturday, May 3 at Ford Field: Gates open: 8 a.m. Mascot Race and Kids Fun Run: 9 a.m. - 9:20a.m. 5K: 9:45 a.m., Opening ceremony: 10 a.m., Walk: 10:20 a.m.

 

Washtenaw County Heart Walk and 5K on Saturday, May 10 at Eastern Michigan University’s Student Center, located at 900 Oakwood St: Grounds open: 8 a.m., Opening ceremony 8:30 a.m., 5K Run: 9 a.m., Walk: 9:30 a.m.

 

Background:  The American Heart Association is inviting the public to “be heroic” during the annual Detroit Heart Walk at Ford Field on May 3 and the Washtenaw County Heart Walk and 5K on May 10. The family-friendly events will celebrate heart disease and stroke survivors as well as those lost from cardiovascular disease. The hero-themed events are free to the public, however, individuals and teams are encouraged to register and fundraise in advance.

 

Heart disease is the number one cause of death while stroke is the number four cause of death in Americans. The annual heart walk is a nationwide event that allows attendees to participate in physical activities while raising funds for heart disease and stroke research and education.

 

The Detroit walk is hosted by Alan Lee of FOX 2 News and Sean Lee of WWJ Newsradio 950.  Erika Erickson from FOX 2 News will emcee the Washtenaw walk.

 

The Metro Detroit Heart Walk is locally sponsored by Fifth Third Bank, FMR, Beaumont Health System, Medstar, Ford, AMG, Continental Services and Henry Ford Health System. The Washtenaw Heart Walk is presented by Eastern Michigan University.
