Berkley Ice Arena Floats Adult Hockey League

Games would be held Saturdays at 8, 9 and 10 p.m. over the course of a 23-week season, according to Parks & Recreation officials, who want to hear from interested players.

The is looking to form an adult ice hockey league for the 2012-2013 season and wants to know if you're interested.

Arena Supervisor Dave Hendricks said the facility is looking for four or six teams to play on Saturdays at 8, 9 and 10 p.m. Royal Oak residents are welcome to join.

"We're looking to run a 23-week season with 3 weeks of pre-season games and 3 weeks of playoff games," he said. "We'll have referees and a score keeper for every game."

Director Tom Colwell said the 30-and-over league would start Sept. 15.

Once the teams are together, he said a managers meeting will be held to determine the league's format. The teams' interests and the length of games determined during the managers meeting will determine the cost of participating in the league, Colwell said.

"We've had really strong leagues at the arena before," said Colwell, who added that requests from players prompted the idea for an adult hockey league.
